Goals and Reflections: What happened during January 2018?

Goals and reflections january 2018 blogging pinterest goals

Happy first day of February! I can’t believe it’s already one month into 2018… January has past by so quickly! This made me realise how important time is and how we should always embrace the present moment. As they say, ‘Carpe Diem‘.

Let’s talk about how January treated me…

a) Blogging Schedule

At the beginning of January, I set my blogging schedule as Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

However, in the middle of the month, I started a few other projects such as my new YouTube channel, planning my free email course, and started writing my eBook. You can imagine what happened. I didn’t keep up to date with my blogging schedule. I posted 8 articles this month when I was supposed to post 12! While all my articles are well thought-out and put together because I only want to publish high quality and useful content, I really think I could have stuck to my schedule if I managed my time better.

b) Mailing list

One of the most valuable things that I have learnt from blogging is to start your mailing list when you launch your blog. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have many blog views or followers, just start your mailing list early! You will grow it as you progress.

My January goal for my mailing list was 50 subscribers and I am happy to say that I reached 52 lovely subscribers! I am so grateful for each and every one of my subscribers and always love receiving feedback from my weekly newsletters.

( Hint: Scroll up and look to the right. See that Mailing List sign up form? You can join my tribe there 😉 )

c) Collaborations

I scored my first ever brand collaboration this month. Despite being a new blog (launched at the end of November 2017), it is possible to work with brands early into your blogging journey. You just have to hustle for it! (Stay on the look out for my first brand product post)

I also have planned some collaborations with fellow bloggers for February which will be exciting! I’m all for collaborating with others to create great content for our audiences. If you want to collaborate, hit me up.

a) Twitter

Twitter has to be my favourite social media platform because love chatting with other people, and making new friendships. It is nice to have a group of supportive friends that have your back so I am so grateful to have met lovely people. This month’s goal was to reach 1500 followers. As of now, I have 1784 amazing people following me 🙂

Here are some analytics to compare December 2017 and January 2018. I was active waaaaay more during January and that led to more impressions, profile visits and followers.

b) Instagram

To be honest, I slacked off on Instagram at the end of the month. I lost motivation in taking photos for the gram but I will definitely get back into the groove! My goal was to reach 500 followers. With the recent algorithm changes, I thought it would be difficult to reach this goal but I have surpassed it and am now at 648 followers. Hooray! As for engagement, it has been great! I’m not sure what an optimal engagement:follower ratio is but I am averaging 170 likes/20 comments per post which in my opinion, isn’t that bad.

c) Pinterest

Ahh Pinterest, my new found love. I have been getting serious about Pinterest this month by trying to understand how it works to benefit my blog. I started January with having 525 monthly viewers and now I have 6,800 monthly viewers…

Pinterest goals and reflections blogging

How did it happen? To be honest, I am not too sure but I will tell you what I have been doing this month:

  • Making a Pinterest business account
  • Enabling Rich pins
  • Pinning 30+ everyday at different times
  • Making boards relevant to my blog and myself

d) YouTube

I posted my first video on the 23rd January! I had set myself a very high goal of reaching 100 subscribers by the end of the month but I reached 72 subscribers and I am so happy about. It still amazes me that people watch my videos because I still feel awkward filming (haha!). Don’t worry, I will improve! You can subscribe here to watch me transform from awkward Stephanie to semi-confident YouTuber 😉

a) I started a new hobby: watercolour painting

Back in high school, I was always interested in art but since school finished, I never picked up a pencil or paint brush. I decided why not try it out as a creative outlet. Therefore I bought a watercolour art book and a watercolour palette, and as a result, I am now learning the simple techniques of watercolour painting. We’ll see how I improve in February!

b) My long-term client wanted me to write 4 more articles

As a freelance writer, I was ecstatic when my long-term client wanted more articles from me . It makes me so glad that someone is happy with my work.

c) I challenged myself to ‘No-Spend January’ and…

I somewhat achieved it?

Earlier in the month, I was challenged by Chloe to do the ‘No-Spend’ challenge  where I can only spend on necessities such as food, personal care etc during January. Did I make a major purchase this month? A Canon G7x as a business expense. Does that count? You be the judge!

No-Spend January has opened my eyes to all the useless things that I have purchased in the past and my bank account is definitely a lot happier (minus the camera purchase). Since I am pursuing the minimalist lifestyle by not adding materialistic ‘rubbish’ in my life, it has made me aware of the importance of saving money and investing in experiences.

d) I am starting to take control of my diet

Due to my sensitive stomach, there is a lot of food that I can’t eat. For the longest time now, I have been so scared of eating food because right after, I would feel very ill. This month, I have been keeping a food diary to record the foods that are making me feel bad so I can stay away from them. I should probably have considered doing this a long time ago but better late than never!

I have also been leaning towards a more plant-based diet since I’ve found that I don’t react negatively to plant-based foods. Yay for a happy stomach!

Also, I always have No-Buy days that I count in my habit tracker, but haven't yet managed to go a full month. Do you count groceries up to a certain level? Oh, and I should mark my art supplies as business expenses for more peace of mind, too!

    • Thank you Evelyne ^.^ I’ll definitely update my progress throughout the month!
Haha it stopped me for a while because I was scared but yes! A plant-based diet is changing my eating habits ^.^
